Our Connections

Marcelle Speller OBE is an entrepreneur living in the south west of the UK and the founder of both Localgiving and the Localgiving Foundation. In 1996, Marcelle co-founded, Europe’s leading website for advertising private holiday homes. When the company was sold, she was inspired to found Localgiving, a widely successful membership network and online fundraising platform, dedicated to supporting local charities and community groups in the UK.

In May 2020 Marcelle founded Brevio to empower the third sector to achieve more, particularly in using technology to create more impact and reduce administrative burden. Brevio automates the initial steps in grant applications to free up hundreds of millions of pounds each year. It is a “productivity tool” that matches charities and funders based on the impact they both want to achieve.

In 2011, Marcelle was awarded an OBE for her services to the voluntary sector. In 2013, she was awarded a Beacon Fellowship for Pioneering Philanthropy and was named Philanthropist of the Year at Spear’s Wealth Management Awards. In 2014, she received an honorary DCL (Hons) from the University of East Anglia. She has also appeared on Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire programme. Marcelle obtained an MBA from Insead in 1982 and worked in director and board-level marketing positions with companies across the globe, including American Express and Avis. She also spent more than 10 years leading advertising agencies in London and Amsterdam.
