A decade ago, the financial markets were turned on their heads. The Banking Crisis saw lenders too big to fail supported by public money and others that weren't quite big enough supported into orderly closures under the newly created Banking Act 2009 and special administration regimes.

In more recent times we've seen an upturn in financial services insolvencies and restructurings involving both regulated and unregulated products (as well as fairly significant irregularities in some cases).

The high street banks, under pressure from regulators, the media and government are perceived to have become more cautious about lending and enforcing. This has fuelled the demand for new ways of borrowing. Challenger banks, crowd funding and peer to peer platforms have stolen a march and are offering easier to source (but considerably more expensive to repay) debt and quasi-debt products as a mainstream funding source.

From a consumer perspective we have seen a stream of mis-selling complaints in various areas (from pensions to PPI) that has not yet wholly abated and there is a suggestion that car finance schemes may be coming under greater regulatory scrutiny in the near future.

What does this mean for businesses and consumers? Join the debate on the future financial landscape.
