Our commitment to sport and sports professionals extends beyond integrated financial advice.
In response to the acute need for financial education amongst sports professionals we created the Smith & Williamson Academy Programme to enable the next generation to confidently manage their financial future.
Our workshops help any sportsperson, agent or team learn the basics of savings and investments. By getting into good financial habits early, whether a career lasts a lifetime or a season, a sports professional can make better informed decisions and concentrate on their discipline, without the distractions of financial concerns.
We have also developed and present training workbooks, which meet the criteria for the finance element of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance.
This NVQ is part of the Premier League’s Apprenticeship Framework. We are now working with an expanding number of Premier League clubs as a Premier League preferred partner to present these workbooks and help Academy players gain a financial education and sports qualification.
What started as a football focused programme has now been broadened and available to sports people and teams nationwide.
We ultimately hope to ensure that the UK’s sports professionals have a greater understanding of how to successfully manage their finances so they can concentrate on their careers.
“The sessions Smith & Williamson provided to our academy players about managing their finances have been the most thorough, informative and well-presented I have seen in the last 15 years I have been working in academy football. Our players are experiencing being paid for the first time and, as football coaches, we do not have the expertise or experience to advise them. Smith & Williamson delivered sessions that allowed the players to work in small groups and ask questions to qualified, friendly and good humoured staff.”
Ben Smith, Former Academy Manager, Crystal Palace FC
“Finance is an important issue for any young person but at Liverpool we take the financial education development of our players very seriously. Our players not only found the presentation from Smith & Williamson useful, but the real-life examples generated serious discussions which continued far past the lecture theatre. I think the training is a must for any young sportsman or woman who needs to think seriously about their finances in the not too distant future.”
Phil Roscoe, Assistant Academy Manager/Head of Education & Welfare, Liverpool FC
