A data solutions and software development company has scooped the Institute of Directors (IoD) West Midlands’ Family Business Director of the Year Award for 2017, sponsored by the Birmingham office of accountancy, investment management and tax group, Smith & Williamson.
Family-run Synectics Solutions, which has its headquarters in Burslem, Stoke on Trent, was awarded the prize at the IoD West Midlands Director of the Year Awards held at a breakfast event at Warwickshire County Cricket's Edgbaston Stadium.
The family behind Synectics Solutions enjoyed a double win with Kate Beardmore named the Family Business Director of the Year and her mother, Carol Shanahan, named Director of the Year for her unwavering commitment to the company's Corporate Social Responsibility policies.
Ray Abercromby, a partner in Smith & Williamson’s Birmingham office, is pictured presenting the Family Business Director award to Kate Beardmore.
Ray said: “It was a pleasure to support the IoD’s Family Business Director of the Year Award again this year and to be able to celebrate the considerable achievements of the winner Kate Beardmore, HR Director at Synectics Solutions. Being involved in the running of any business is challenging but even more so when it is a family business which brings additional layers of complexity. We count many family-owned and run businesses among our clients and we have great admiration for what family members are able to achieve professionally, both together and individually, often with the backing and support of a great team of people.”
Synectics Solutions is a pioneering data solutions and software development firm which has been providing cutting-edge software products to clients across the finance, insurance, automotive, public sector, and private sectors for over 25 years. Focused on fighting financial crime and protecting clients against fraud, its products are able to spot patterns and identify networks invisible to the human eye.
Kate Beardmore, HR Director at Synectics Solutions, said: “I’m so pleased to have been presented with this award and I’m also really proud to be a part of the second generation of this brilliant family company. There are unique challenges and opportunities in family businesses that you don’t get in others and the varied roles I’ve had in my time with Synectics have had to overcome and grasp those. For that work to be recognised with an Institute of Directors award is truly humbling.”
