Charles has worked with several wealthy families since joining Smith & Williamson in 1994. He advises younger clients with newly-acquired wealth, as well as those with inherited wealth across all age groups. He works with landed estates, and has clients with heritage assets, who are often ‘asset rich and income poor’.
Charles has extensive experience of running onshore and offshore family collective vehicles. He works closely with Smith & Williamson’s tax specialists, in particular on behalf of non-UK domiciled clients.
Notable client work and achievements
- Advising on the impact of and investing the proceeds of the sale of a family business, for different family members over three generations. The family’s requirements included onshore and offshore investment management, and multi-currency reporting.
- Working closely with a family and advisers following a sudden bereavement, which had significant and widespread ramifications.
- Undertaking a review of a client’s wider assets and, in collaboration with other professional advisers, helping to rationalise these. Investment properties, pensions and share portfolios, many held in trusts, were sold or consolidated to reduce costs, improve tax efficiency and, thereby, returns.
