Mark served as an army officer for five years before embarking on a City career. He spent 12 years with Hoare Govett and Credit Lyonnais Securities, where he specialised in retailing Investment Trusts to institutional clients.
On returning to his roots in South Warwickshire in 1992, he switched to private client investment management and joined Albert E Sharp, which was later acquired by Old Mutual before being merged with Gerrard and eventually being taken over by Barclays. He joined Smith & Williamson in 2008 as a director.

Formerly a member of the Stock Exchange (elected in 1984) and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments (CISI).
